It’s been over a month now since I arrived in A Guarda, and so much has unfolded! Initially, I had the chance to visit the southern part of Spain, specifically Extremadura, where we did a theatrical workshop with seniors. Witnessing 80-year-olds actively participating in such activities was adorable. I also visited Vigo, the nearby big city, as it was gearing up for a grand Christmas lighting event.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of the past month was my visit to Porto and the extraordinary theater performance I experienced. The venue was stunning, and the performance, particularly the scene, left a lasting impression. Although I missed the chance to try the famous francesinha, it’s now on my to-do list for my next visit to Portugal.
Lastly, but incredibly important, was the project with the youth group, creating a video featuring monologues of children from Gaza for the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. What I truly appreciate about the arts is their ability to convey powerful messages, and it’s unfortunate that many governments oppress various forms of art as a means of control.
